$50M Contract signed for George Weston Foods Flagship Bakery
Construction has commenced on the new George Weston Foods Bakery in Chullora, NSW. This will be one of the largest bakeries in the world and one of the most modern. The bakery will be capable of producing 27,000 loaves of bread per hour when fully operational.
A W Edwards negotiated the lump sum construction contract after winning the first parcel of works at competitive tender. The 25,000 square meter specialised food manufacturing facility features a high-tech "Spantech" roof supported by a large steel portal frame structure, creating three "halls". These three sections house the mixing, baking and dispatch processes. The construction contract includes extensive external works including car parks, roads and landscaping. Footings consist largely of bored piers, some extending eleven meters below excavated ground level.
